Mitigating Your Hurricane Losses After a Storm

  • Make sure your windows are protected and your home is secured
  • Check your disaster supply kits.
  • Have ample amounts of water and non-perishable foods.
  • Always stay inside and away from windows, skylights and doors.
  • If flooding happens turn off electricity at the main breaker.
  • Turn off major appliances and computers during power outages.
  • Remain indoors until an official "All Clear" is given.
  • Do not touch fallen or low hanging wires of any kind.
  • Stay away from puddles with wires in/near them.
  • Use phones for emergencies only.
  • Report downed powerlines, broken gas or water mains.
  • Take photos as soon as you can of any or all damages that you may have sustained.
  • Do not pay in cash or without receipt for any and all repairs or debris removal.
